2014 Prius Blown Head Gasket – Full Engine Repair – Newark, NJ
This 2014 Toyota Prius arrived at our shop with classic blown head gasket symptoms: white smoke from the exhaust, overheating, and misfires during cold starts. Gen 3 Prius models are especially prone to this issue. After confirming the failure with a compression and leak-down test, we performed a complete head gasket replacement with proper machining and torque specs.

Diagnosis:
We performed a leak-down and compression test and confirmed that cylinder 2 was leaking into the cooling system. This is a known failure point in Gen 3 Prius engines with high mileage.
Work Performed:
- Disassembled top end of engine
- Sent cylinder head for resurfacing and pressure test
- Installed new OEM head gasket, bolts, and water pump
- Reassembled with new fluids and test-driven
Results:
- No more coolant loss or white smoke
