
2004 Prius Combination Meter Screen Repair – Newark, NJ
This 2004 Toyota Prius was brought in with a blacked-out instrument cluster. The owner couldn’t see the speedometer, fuel level, or warning lights, and had trouble shutting off the car. This is a known Gen 2 problem caused by a failing internal capacitor. We performed a full in-house repair and restored full functionality.

Diagnosis:
We identified a failing capacitor on the combination meter circuit board — a common issue in 2004–2009 Gen 2 Prius models. Power was reaching the cluster, but no display output.
Work Performed:
- Removed dashboard and accessed cluster
- Replaced failing capacitor and reflowed board connections
- Reassembled, installed, and verified full display function
Results:
- All dash information visible again
- No more flickering or blackouts
- Normal power on/off behavior restored
