Tips to Improve MPG in Your Prius
The Toyota Prius is built for efficiency, but with the right habits and maintenance, you can squeeze out even more miles per gallon. Whether you’re a delivery driver or just want to save on fuel, these tips will help you get the most from your hybrid.
1. Keep Your Tires Properly Inflated
Low tire pressure creates drag and kills MPG. Check your pressure monthly and keep all four tires at the recommended PSI (usually around 35–38).
2. Use ECO Mode & Glide Driving
ECO Mode softens throttle response and limits A/C use. “Gliding” — where you coast with no acceleration or regenerative braking — can improve fuel economy on flat roads.
3. Minimize Short Trips
The Prius gets its best MPG when the engine is fully warmed up. Combining errands or avoiding frequent short trips can make a big difference.
4. Keep Up with Maintenance
A dirty throttle body, clogged air filter, or bad spark plugs can hurt efficiency. We recommend a full hybrid health check every 3 months.
